3months.com to build the next generation WorkSite
19 September 2003
The Department of Labour and its partner agencies have chosen Wellington-based web development company 3months.com to develop the second phase of the WorkSite portal.
WorkSite (www.worksite.govt.nz) was initially launched in November 2002. It's an electronic one-stop shop for people and businesses, providing the information and services about education, training, jobs and employment available through various government agencies.
3months.com will work with the Department's WorkSite project team to build the phase two portal for launch towards the end of 2003. Viewers will be able to find enriched information and more integrated services from agencies including Labour, Education, Career Services, Tertiary Education Commission and Work and Income.
Information from the non-government and private sectors will also be included.
3months.com's proposal was one of six responses to a public RFP, which was also advertised through the Government Electronic Tender System. Geoff Bascand, General Manager, Department of Labour, said "The partner agencies will be working hard with 3months.com to ensure that we deliver an even more customised WorkSite portal to help New Zealanders with their career choices.
"Making sure New Zealanders can find this information on skills and work in one place is a key to improving the match-up between the education, training and work people are entering and the career and job opportunities and employment conditions that exist in New Zealand." Geoff Bascand also stressed that WorkSite aims to provide help for employers wanting to hire staff, or in search of assistance with running or growing their business.
WorkSite is one of the initiatives under the Government's Skills Action Plan. The Plan aims to improve matching people's skills to available job opportunities, and help people make informed decisions about their education, training and work choices.
Other government agencies involved in WorkSite include: Career Services,
Ministry of Social Development (Work and Income), State Services Commission,
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, New Zealand Qualifications Authority,
Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Education.
