Important changes regarding the issuing of Scaffolding Certificates
Tuesday 26 July 2005
The Secretary of Labour has changed the organisation that issues certificates of competence for scaffolders.
If persons carrying out construction work erect, maintain, repair or dismantle scaffolding over a certain height then they are required to hold a certificate of competence. Since 1995 the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation has been carrying this out on behalf of the Department of Labour.
The Hon Steve Maharey, Associate Minister of Education, (Tertiary Education), recently approved an extension of industry coverage to the Power Crane Association Industry Training Organisation (now called, Opportunity The Training Organisation). This means they now cover Scaffolding, Rigging and Industrial Rope Access
Hence it is now more appropriate for that organisation to issue certificates of competence for scaffolders.
This takes effect from 1st August 2005. The fees remain the same.
