Chief Executive
Christopher Blake took up the role of Chief Executive of the Department of Labour in October 2007. Prior to joining the Department he was Chief Executive of the Department of Internal Affairs for five and a half years.
He joined the public service in 1991 as the foundation Chief Executive of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, a position he held for six years. Following this he was the Chief Executive and National Librarian at the National Library of New Zealand from 1997-2002. He has also been Acting Chief Executive at the Ministry of Housing.
Christopher Blake has tertiary qualifications in civil engineering and music. Prior to joining the public service he worked in managerial roles in the professional performing arts. These included positions as General Manager of the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Manager of Concert FM at Radio New Zealand.
