Government Endorsement of the Principles for the Property Services Industry: Report on Consultation

The Ministry undertook targeted consultation on how the government endorses the Principles for the Property Services Industry in February 2014. A consultation letter was sent to key stakeholders in the cleaning industry for feedback. The consultation letter outlined the issues that have been raised about how the Government applies the Principles and options that could be developed in response to these issues.

We received written submissions and also met with stakeholders who requested a meeting. The Ministry has produced a report, found below, which provides an overview of the consultation process and a summary of the feedback received in response to the consultation letter.

As a result of the consultation, the Minister of Labour Hon Simon Bridges announced that Cabinet agreed to amend how the Government endorses the Principles for the Property Services Industry. As outlined in Minister Bridges’ press release, suppliers of cleaning services are no longer required to join the industry association (Building Services Contractors of New Zealand) to contract with Government.
