An occupation may be in demand in New Zealand if it appears in our Long Term Skills Shortage List (LTSSL) and/or our Immediate Skills Shortage List (ISSL).
Please note this also now includes Canterbury Skill Shortage List (CSSL), which highlights occupations in shortage that are needed during the rebuild in Canterbury, and facilitates the grant of work visas for those occupations.
LTSSL lists occupations that are in demand all over NZ, and is relevant in residence applications (Work to Residence (LTSSL) and Skilled Migrant policies), while ISSL shows shortages in particular areas of NZ and can be used to obtain a work visa.
You should refer to the Essential Skills in Demand page of our website for more information and the access to the lists to check if your occupation is in demand in NZ.
