Located in the Northwest of the South Island, Nelson often wins the annual national competition for most sunshine hours. Residents enjoy all this sunshine by participating in an abundance of leisure activities on their beaches, in nearby national parks, rivers and more.
With a population of 50,000, many migrants settle in the region and there’s a large representation of newcomers from the , US and Germany. The local economy is dependent on its top four industries: seafood, horticulture, tourism and forestry. Major exports are supported by one of New Zealand’s largest sea ports, Port Nelson.
