As of 2011, the resident population of New Zealand is over 4.4 million. The population is estimated to increase by one person every 13 minutes and 48 seconds.
Every five years, Statistics New Zealand collects national census data and an official population count is made. The Government has announced that the next New Zealand Census of Population and Dwellings will be held on Tuesday, 5 March 2013.
