New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy

The New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy was launched in June 2003 by the Minister for ACC.

The strategy, which covers injuries in all settings, provides a vision and strategic direction for injury prevention in New Zealand.

The strategy (on page 26) refers to the Department of Labour's role in leading the co-ordination of national strategies for the prevention of workplace injuries (including occupational diseases). The Department will achieve this through the Workplace Health and Safety Strategy project.

Workplace Health and Safety Strategy

The Workplace Health and Safety Strategy for New Zealand to 2015 is being developed to provide a national vision and strategic direction for workplace health and safety over the next ten years.

The Strategy will include a set of principles, a vision, a set of outcomes and a high-level implementation plan.

The Strategy will assist New Zealand to better focus its workplace health and safety efforts.

It will also provide a clear direction to people in workplaces, stakeholder groups and community leaders who have a direct involvement, or a contributory role to play, in workplace health and safety in New Zealand.

The Department of Labour is responsible for the development of this Strategy.

This Strategy is also part of the New Zealand Injury Prevention Strategy released by Government in 2003.
