LABOUR MARKET DYNAMICS
The Labour Market Dynamics group strengthens the Department’s knowledge base and provides stakeholders with authoritative labour market knowledge and insights. There are five main groups:
Labour Market Analysis
The Labour Market Analysis team provides a range of insights into labour market conditions through the detailed and timely analysis of relevant data. They provide labour market updates, detailed analysis and interpretation for stakeholders, and industry focussed and topical analysis for colleagues in the Department.
Labour Market Skills
The Labour Market Skills team analyses and develops evidence about the supply and demand for skills in the labour market. The focus is on providing stakeholders, such as immigration and the tertiary education system, with information that can assist in workforce planning.
Labour Market Futures
The Labour Market Futures team’s role is to investigate the forces for change that will impact on the future of the New Zealand labour market. The team focuses on exploring these forces (globalisation, population demographic change and resource constraint) to develop the evidence base to prepare a productive workforce for 2020.
Labour Market Research
The Labour Market Research team generate and communicate high quality relevant research findings, and develop new data sources to fill key information gaps. The research programme is currently focussing on three specific data sets, The Linked Employer Employee Dataset, the Survey of Working Life and the Business Operation Survey.
Labour Market Forecasting
The Forecasting activity is about providing insights about future trends in the labour market in New Zealand in the medium-longer term about the demand and supply of skills to influence stakeholder policies, behaviors and decisions. They model and interpret labour market information relating to the supply and demand of labour over the short to medium term future.
