Entitlements to more leave or parental leave payments multiple births

Is an employee entitled to more leave or parental leave payments if they give birth to more than one child?

If a parent has more than one child at the same time - e.g. twins - that person's entitlement to parental leave and payments remains the same as if they were only having one child.

However, depending on their level of family income, may be entitled to Parental Tax Credit, a family assistance payment available from Inland Revenue (IR) for both children. The Parental Tax Credit is available for each child born at the same time. The Parental Tax Credit is administered by the IRD and more information is available on their website.

An employee is not entitled to receive both the Parental Tax Credit and paid parental leave in relation to the same child.
