Know your Rights by Angell Rosieur

Everyday I wake up
I see him dressing to go to work
I tell him be safe,
As he puts on his Glovers shirt
As he drives off for the day
We smile & start to wave
I pray he’ll be ok
Coz I don’t know what to say to our kids if anything should happen
It’s up to him to prevent that type of action
Coz he’s gota do his best to keep himself safe at work
And come home to us unhurt
And every job has its limits
No lives can be measure with cash
You’ve got to think smart
No need to work fast
You have the rights to refuse work if you think it’s dangerous
Its better that then ending up hazardous
Now every industry has its difficulties
But every worker is a life
You’ve got to think twice
An occupation feeds a family
& no matter what you’re supposed to be treated fairly
And every mother & all wives can reside without fear
Coz the company supplied all the safety gear
So let’s take a step in the right direction
Work safe and avoid complications

CHORUS
You got to know your rights
If you wona be safe
Coz you have the rights to be safe
In your work place
Now our youth are struggling
Just trying to make a stand
Getting a job is hard
And they don’t understand they perform the greater part to our structure
Without them our economy would rapture
You have rights as much as the rest of us
But think smart there is so much you can’t trust!
So learn more from the department of labour
Coz what you discover might just save yah
You’ve got to concider the protection of your wellbeing
When working with scaffolding & heavy machinery, logging sites
Or rural places unseen-
Especially if you’re younger then 15
We’ve got to be wise
We’ve got to support our young
Ready to lend a hand
Even when they earn an income
Supportive words create a powerful mind
So think twice
& be the one to survive

CHORUS
So we got to remember that our safety starts at home
Educating our children
Showing them right from wrong
Learning to crawl or starting to walk
It doesn’t matter safety starts from birth
Then everyday up-
A educated child is a person ready for life
In every aspect of home, school or work life
And coming from a developed home brings stability
So open your eyes and hold on
And never let go
If its right then you’ll know
That your going to be safe
And another day will go
You have to learn your rights so don’t wait
Coz we all have the rights to be safe

Chorus
You got to know your rights if you wona be safe
Coz you have the rights to be safe in your work place
No bodies better
Your equally valued to work together
We’ve got to work safe
We’ve got to think safe
